Game Angling - Lough More and Border Blackwater Angling Association

Lough More is a 90 acre lough which straddles the border between Monaghan and Tyrone. It is a natural trout lough but also has a stock of perch, rudd and bream. The wild trout have been augmented with generous stockings of fry. It receives a stocking with 400 2-year old brown trout in March and again in July every year.

The season is from 1st March to the 30th September. Favourite flies are Bibio, Hare’s Ear, Olives Peter Ross, Green Peter and Claret and Mallard. During the summer late evening often sees a huge rise of fish.

Access from the Northern side is off the Aughnacloy-Augher road where it is signed for St Patrick’s Well and Chair. Access from Monaghan is by the R186 through Tydavnet to Bragan Cross, a distance of 12 miles. At Bragan Cross take a right and the first house on the left belongs to Sean Treanor who rents the boats and sells permits. There is parking at the lough shore.

Fishing is by fly only. The Lough More and Border Blackwater Angling Association controls fishing on this water. A season licence is €35 or £23. Day ticket is €10 or £7.
