Angling - Lough More and Border Blackwater Angling Association
Lough More is a 90 acre lough which
straddles the border between Monaghan and Tyrone. It
is a natural trout lough but also has a stock of perch,
rudd and bream. The wild trout have been augmented with
generous stockings of fry. It receives a stocking with
400 2-year old brown trout in March and again in July
every year.
The season is from 1st March to the 30th September.
Favourite flies are Bibio, Hare’s Ear, Olives
Peter Ross, Green Peter and Claret and Mallard. During
the summer late evening often sees a huge rise of fish.
Access from the Northern side is off the Aughnacloy-Augher
road where it is signed for St Patrick’s Well
and Chair. Access from Monaghan is by the R186 through
Tydavnet to Bragan Cross, a distance of 12 miles. At
Bragan Cross take a right and the first house on the
left belongs to Sean Treanor who rents the boats and
sells permits. There is parking at the lough shore.
Fishing is by fly only. The Lough More and Border Blackwater
Angling Association controls fishing on this water.
A season licence is €35 or £23. Day ticket
is €10 or £7.

Lough Bradan
This lough is stocked with 200 takeable trout in March
every year. All legal methods are allowed and local
directions from Bragan Cross are necessary. There is
a short walk to the lough from a small car park.
Border Blackwater
Good trout stream. All legal methods.
