Towns and Villages in County Monaghan
Clones Town
Clones Town Centre

Clones has many buildings and sites of historical interest. The Diamond is dominated by the Church of Ireland and an early 9/10thc High Cross. Other buildings of note in and around the town include the Presbyterian Church, and the ruins of John Wesley's Methodist Church.

Dating back to earlier times, the ruins of a motte and bailey fort can still be seen. Nearby, a 12thc. Abbey, known locally as the 'wee abbey' has the unusual feature of a Celtic Cross sculpted in relief on the Northern Wall. On the same site the sarcophagus of St. Tiernach, a 6thc. Abbot lies beside Clones Round Tower.

The Ulster Canal Store is a community enterprise providing tourist information, a permanent exhibition of Clones lace, coffee shop and bicycle hire facility.

Clones golf Club and 9-hole course is set amidst Hilton Park's old demesne with spectacular countryside views. Hilton Park Victorian Gardens provide secluded walks beside herbaceous borders, herb gardens, yew hedges and a lakeside summerhouse. Viewing by appointment.

Local writer Patrick McCabe's film 'The Butcher Boy' was shot in Clones. The challenge is to spot familiar locations.
